School House System
During their first week in Reception, a boy might say he is in the ‘red house’ but by the second week he will firmly know he is a ‘Barnes boy’!
The boys have a strong affiliation with their House. As a school, we encourage healthy competition and the house system provides a perfect mechanism for motivating pupils to do their best across a range of activities. House Points can be awarded for effort and attainment with academic work but can also be achieved through sport, music, drama and art as well as kind, supportive and positive behaviour. A Head’s Award for exceptional effort, performance or behaviour secures 5 House Points! All House Points are collated by Form Teachers and documented on Mr Peyton’s clipboard to be announced in the hugely popular House Points Assembly each week, with House Captains and Vice-Captains delivering a stirring speech to rally the troops. House points are also secured through inter-house sports and music events throughout the year.
Perhaps the most intense of rivalries but always great fun and good humoured. The prestigious House Cup is awarded at Speech Day with the winning House enjoying ‘lashings of ice cream’. Boys belong to one of four houses and follow older siblings into the same House.
